BEING A SUPERHERO IS NOT A PART-TIME JOB

I pretty much know everything there is to know about my favourite superheroes. And I can’t say the same about any of my close friends or even my siblings. The reality is that I’m not alone. People around the globe consider these superheroes as part of their family. People style their beards imitating these characters (Once I get to have one, I’m going for Tony Stark), they follow their diet and workout plans (Spoiler alert! It’s hardly possible), and often they dress like them (iron man being my favourite, I just can’t afford to buy a costume that costly). But, in every one of these movies, we are fed the notion that being a superhero is a part time job- when some big guy with a weird glove appears from nowhere, the so called superheroes get in their glossy costumes and come up with a plan that could either save the world or destroy it.

But in reality, there is no big guy who hunts down planets, but micro-organisms capable of wiping out entire civilizations. In reality, there is no sophisticated superhero suits, but uniforms- white and khaki. And in reality, being a superhero is not a part-time job, but a full-time occupation.

For people who still haven’t figured out what the hell I am talking about; Yes, I’m referring to the present Covid situation that we are trapped in.

Being in the fort of solitude for a while now, I’ve been asking myself who the most powerful avenger is in the marvel cinematic universe. After giving it much thought, I came to the conclusion that no avenger can even match the mighty Thanos when it comes to saving the universe. All Thanos have to do to be in the list of ‘world saviours’, is to do nothing- just nothing.

We are in a similar situation. The only thing that we should do to save the world, is nothing. And I am completely aware that it takes everything to actually ‘do nothing’- it requires us to resist the temptation to go out and see whether anyone else got out, to control innate urge to go against the popular beliefs and to stay inside four walls in the company of the ones that we hardly know of- our family. I know, It is easier said than done. On the contrary, destroying the world has never been easier. If destroying the Earth has been your childhood dream, this is the most opportune moment. Just do whatever you’ve been doing before the month of March- go out and pay your friends a visit, hug them, shake hands with them, spit in the open, sneeze like you were born to do it, never wash your hands and convince others to do the same.

Just like Thanos, it is all within your hands- literally and metaphorically. And as I said, this is no part-time job. Each waking moment, you are supposed to carry out this task- to do nothing. If you are reading these words in the lonely corner of your house, with your hands half-wet with the hand wash you used an hour ago, trust me, you may not be wearing your brief infront of your pants, but you are still a superhero.
