We may all look alike, have identical organ systems, and have comparable thought processes. But you shut your room, wear noise-cancelling headphones, and close your eyes- and you know that there is a whole UNIVERSE inside of you and there is no way that it is not unique. You might have been sleeping alongside your husband in the same room for 35 years but there is no assurance that you’ve got any clue as to what is going on inside his very own UNIVERSE. You could arguably be the world’s best mom, and yet there is no way of telling whether you’d be able to rightly predict anything that is coming to life inside your five-year-old son’s UNIVERSE. You could have a bestie who has been with you through thick and thin as far as you can remember, but I’m sure you are in no position to inform me of the affairs of her personal UNIVERSE.
We all carry these enormous UNIVERSEs inside of ourselves which just can’t be shared in all its essence. But we have found ways to let the beings in these UNIVERSEs communicate with the outside world. An infinite number of people could have stared at you for all those years- but when that dark and gloomy gentleman with a terrible stammer- whom you later started describing as your soul mate, made eye contact, you felt something that wasn’t of this world. You learnt to read and write from your passive-aggressive first-grade teacher and have exchanged words for marks since then, but when you wrote about that fairy who granted the young girl all her wishes, the words you used weren’t the ones you were taught- it came from somewhere else. You thought you gave it all you had, but then you still paced ahead to touch the finish line- and you knew that the last lap was ran by someone else. You were bringing a piece of your own UNIVERSE to this world.
If by any means you know me personally, you know that I’m not a romantic. I always felt that it should be our logic and rationale that should guide us- both products of this material world. And I’ve always tried not to get attached to things- not without failures at times. But I realize that if we stick to these qualities- however great they are, we are only re-arranging the shitty stuff of this world to not affect us- it doesn’t cease to exist, it just gets passed on to someone else. This world, with decades of reign by the most dangerous beings in the UNIVERSE, has become a barren land that is in need of new seeds to penetrate its sombre soil. And we have no more seeds in this world- so we have to borrow from our own UNIVERSEs. We have to find ways to share the resources of our UNIVERSE with this world. And for that, we have to reconnect with our UNIVERSE.
We humans have come up with an umpteen number of ways to distract us from ourselves- hell, we even have digital assistants to talk to when we can’t find any of our friends online. We are buried under workload- things we believe our lives depend on but is outright trivial in the grand scheme of things- scoring 90+ in the upcoming math test, buying a new Royal Enfield you had your eyes on for years, making an impression on your crush when he first steps into your house, acing your project to be anointed the company superstar. But do these things really matter? We were taught to be bothered about them- to pursue them- some, even to dedicate our entire life to them. But at the end, does it really matter? Like a lot of the new machines and devices that we adore, we are getting automated too- our thoughts, mentalities, actions- everything following a pattern that we think we created. But we are not sure, and we certainly don’t have the time to find out. It is time we switch back to manual. Take a little time off for yourselves- away from the distractions you have created for yourselves. Find yourself- have a conversation with yourself- preferably over a cup of coffee because it might go on a little longer than you’d expect. This could very well be the first time you have talked with yourselves for a long time. Even a worldwide lockdown couldn’t convince us to carry out this exercise- so if you feel weird at first, know that it is normal- you are not going insane. You are just getting to know yourself- reconnecting with the sole proprietor of your UNIVERSE.
With a lot of shit raining down on this world from the heavens, I think this might be the only way to save this world- we all contribute a piece of our UNIVERSE to this world and make it a new and better world.
I know that I sound like a crackpot at this point, but in all fairness- this is not my sound. Because I’m not writing this; somebody else is- somebody I’m yet to reconnect with.
